2007 is the 400th Anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America. The Toy Shoppe - located only 60 miles away in Richmond, Virginia - commemorates this historic event by commissioning a wonderful bear by Hermann-Spielwaren GMBH. Available only at The Toy Shoppe, our fully jointed Captain John Smith bear is 15" tall and made from beautiful tipped mohair and stuffed with excelsior. He wears the rich green velvet collar popular in the 1600's and has a deep strong growler. This edition will have celebratory embroidering on both foot pads and will arrive with a special commemorative booklet.
Captain John Smith was one of the original settlers founded Jamestown in 1607. On one hunting and exploration trip near what is now Richmond, Virginia, Smith was taken captive by the Powhatan Indians and condemned to death. Pocahontas, daughter of the chief, saved Smith's life in what is one of the most famous early American stories.
